IM client in Clarify
One night while waiting for a release to complete (sometimes ddcomp can take forever), i decided to help the users communicate with each other while still on the phone with customers. This was back in the day when IM wasn't all that pervasive. Basically what i did was modify the notifier message screen to add the ability to compose a message and then select one or more fellow employees to send to. The message recipients would then see the message text just as they would a regular notification.
To make this work is actually pretty simple, when the user sends a message, i insert it into the message table were the notify server would pick it up and send it along. It worked pretty nicely and only took an hour or so to build.
Of course it is also fairly rudimentary and has the same limitations as the baseline notifier, but hey, it was basically a freebie for the customer.
